Shooting The Breeze Vol. 3

Does anyone have a place that they can go to time after time after time? For me, its always been going down to the beach. I grew up 5 minutes from Fire Island National Seashore, Robert Moses beach was a quick ride from my house. There are a lot of late nights and early morning memories at this beach.

The beach was always a place to escape to clear my head, if I was having a disagreement 8 times out of 10 I’d drive over to the ferries and park my car and just sit. Or I’d go for a walk along the beach and wrap around to the Fire Island Lighthouse. So many childhood memories of walking all the way up the winding stairs to the top.

Walking alongside the ocean is calming just in itself, just looking at a vastness of strength never to be broken, gives you a certain hope in things. Almost making you feel completely insignificant and making your problems feel even more tiny. I really do believe oceans have certain healing powers. I mean there is a reason why our bodies are made up of the same percentages of salt and water that are to the ocean. We are tied to the oceans, or maybe that’s just the Pisces in me.

For obvious reasons Sunrise and Sunset are my favorite times to go to the beach. But there is something special about sunrises, it just fills you up with positivity that each day is a fresh start to something new. I went once on a cold February morning and fisherman were standing in the waves and to me it was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. It was almost like they were fishing for the light and I just stood there in awe of the general beauty.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite short poems, I hope everyone has a great start to the week !

“When your world moves too fast and you lose yourself in the chaos, introduce yourself to each color of the sunset. Reacquaint yourself with the earth beneath your feet. Thank the air that surrounds you with every breath you take. Find yourself in the appreciation of life.” -Christy Ann Martine
