So I am a little late on Spring Cleaning, but I geared up this past weekend. Things have been a bit lazy for me these past couple of weeks, my boyfriend is practicing Ramadan, so not much is going on in the house. This weekend I was all about decluttering. Honestly for me, there is no better feeling in the world than decluttering. I got a lot of shit. I am a habitual Home Goods/Target shopper, and there is nothing better than thrift store shopping on a weekend. Due to this I have a lot of things lying around the house.
What do you do to declutter? For me it’s a room by room thing. I feel like if you try and tackle the entire house you’re just setting yourself up for failure. Normally I start with closets first, as its my go to place to dump or store stuff I don’t use. Don’t even get me started on the bins under my bed. That’s an entire task in itself, but I got through a couple!
It’s always the same question in my head, “when was the last time I used this” if its more than a couple of months ago, it’s out. I really want to start buy higher quality items that will last me longer down the road. Sure some of these trendier items have their value, but really I need to start utilizing quality over quantity. Recently I replaced some of my cheaper flats that I have to replace each season due to wear and tear. I bought a couple flats from Rothy’s , they are these washable woven flats made from recycled bottles. Like how cool is that! And okay, they are a bit pricey, but I have had ONE paid since 2017 and they still look amazing! The best part, I can throw them in the wash, and each time they come out like new! I have two right now, I plan on getting two more. I get it they are a little pricey but if I add up all of the trendy shoes I’ve gotten and then tossed a season, they add up to a ton more than these amazing shoes! Plus, if Meghan Markle wore them, I gotta wear them.
Anyone switching to more sustainable items in the house? We’ve just recently switched out all of our zip lock bags for reusable silicone food bags and I am slowly ditching all of my plastic Tupperware for glass only. We have no more straws in the house, but my one thing is my paper towel obsession! What is everyone using to omit this?! I have a really hard time swinging the towel rag, sometimes it just doesn’t do the job. I’d REALLY love to hear everyone’s alternative to this. I’d like to talk about this more as I make a better transition!
